In today’s round-the-clock news environment, it is important to ensure your senior management are effective spokespeople, who are comfortable and capable in journalist meetings with good interview skills.
Our media training course covers the theoretical side of dealing with the media first, and includes the ‘rules of engagement’ and communications skills. This covers what journalists expect from you and how to get your key messages across to ensure favourable coverage. The interview training also includes advice on steering the conversation, creating a news angle, handling difficult questions, avoiding sensitive topics and when and how to ask for copy approval.
A practical session follows, where the trainer turns journalist and a live media interview is recreated to demonstrate and consolidate the techniques learned earlier in the day. Bespoke questions are prepared for your spokesperson in advance and the session is recorded. This allows attendees to see themselves in the spotlight and assess their performance.
