Waverton UK Fund celebrates three years of outperformance

The Waverton UK Fund reached its three year anniversary on 1 April 2010, returning 8.10% since inception, resulting in top decile performance within its peer group, Lipper Global – UK Equity. Over this period its benchmark, the FTSE 100 Total return Index, rose by 1.28% with the Fund delivering outperformance of 6.82%*.

Fund managers Russell Wallis and Simon Wilson form a highly experienced team within the UK equities space, with over 40 years of combined experience investing in UK large cap companies and utilising option overlay strategies.

Charles Bathurst, Director and head of funds distribution at JOHIM, says:

“Given that the fund’s fledgling years have encompassed the worst recession since the Great Depression of the 1920s-30s, and seen some extremely volatile markets, the first three years’ outperformance is a testament to fund managers’ Russell Wallis and Simon Wilson’s expertise, experience and deep knowledge.”

“We believe their proven stock picking expertise combined with the qualitative and tactical option overlay strategy offers investors a unique way to invest in world class companies, with international earnings, listed on the FTSE 100. The Fund is now being actively used by a number of discretionary asset managers and major multi manager groups as well as being selected for the Standard Life, CoFunds Institutional and Raymond James platforms”.

Fund Managers, Russell Wallis and Simon Wilson comment:

“Currently the fund has around 35 holdings, focusing on international companies with non UK dependent earnings, which generate returns from a combination of alpha, dividends and option premium. This strategy has stood us in good stead as we have weathered the storm over the past three years. A key feature of the Fund being its consistently low tracking error giving it one of the best risk adjusted returns amongst its peer group”

The Dublin -domiciled UCITS III fund seeks long-term capital growth and income through diversified investment in UK equities. It has a bottom-up stock driven approach focused on identifying and investing in leading FTSE 100 companies in addition to a conservative option overlay strategy, employed to enhance returns. Current assets under management are around £80 million.
